Rockin’ Wok Thai Room adds to eclectic dining in Martin City

“We have owned Thai restaurants since 2014 and all our restaurants have won awards.”

By Brad Ziegler

Martin City has long been known for its diverse dining options, but that diversity has been expanded even further with the recent opening of the Rockin’ Wok Thai Room at RC’s, 330 E 135 St.  The new restaurant held its grand opening December 1st and is now open to the public seven days a week from 11am to 9pm.

Located on the second floor of RC’s, Rockin’ Wok was opened by the new owners of RC’s, Rob and Sommack Paxton, who also own and operate Thai House Restaurant at 99th and Holmes and four other restaurants around the Midwest.  “Thai food is a big part of what we do. We have owned Thai restaurants since 2014 and all our restaurants have won awards,” explained Rob Paxton.  The management of the restaurant is done by a team of local employees and Sommack is frequently on site to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Sommack is a native of Laos, which borders Thailand. Her father is from Thailand. Sommack says she keeps the recipes as authentic as possible. “We use less sodium,” she says. “We also get many of our ingredients from Thailand. You can’t find them here,” she says. The recipes found at Thai House are also found at Rockin’ Wok Thai.

The Rockin’ Wok menu features a large variety of options for dine in or carry out, including more than a dozen rice and noodle dishes, such as Pad Thai, Thai Lo Mein, and Basil Fried Rice, a variety of stir fry entrees with six different protein options, and curry dishes such as Mango Curry and Evil Jungle Princess.  They offer a wide range of appetizers, soups and salad choices, and a selection of six different Pho dishes. Diners can also select from a variety of spice levels to fit their preference. “Thai food can be some of the healthiest food around.  Several dishes are rich in herbs and vegetables, and everything is made to order,” Paxton said. Gluten free, vegan and low sodium options are available upon request.

RC’s had been offering live music on the weekends in the space, which the new owners plan to continue. They have retained the pool tables, darts and other games and have added about 20 new televisions. “A killer karaoke system” and new carpet are planned for the space.  A wok and kitchen have been installed behind the bar.

RC’s upstairs space can still be reserved for private functions, as the lower level is large enough to accommodate both RC’s and Rockin’ Wok customers if needed. For more information, check out rockinwokthai.com/order.
