Art Fest in Grandview celebrates beer, art and pups

Michelle Brown, an entrepreneur, artist and former owner of The Chive, along with her son Nolan Brown, owner of Transparent Brewery, are hosting their third ArtFest at the Transparent Brewing Co. on Saturday Oct. 5 from noon to 10 pm. Michelle started the ArtFest in 2022 to showcase other arts in the fall besides pumpkins. Her son’s brewing company, located at 14501 White Ave., (off 49 Hwy and 150 Hwy) is the ideal spot for such an occasion. The event is free for all ages. Food and drink are available for purchase.

Most importantly, local artists will be exhibiting art, pottery, painting, stained glass multimedia, jewelry and drawings.

Specialty dog beds are also available for purchase with proceeds this year going to the Grandview Arts Council. Local Grandview artist Kerry Stucky along with Michelle have tirelessly devoted themselves to this project to support local artists.

A cabinet drawer dog bed created by artist Kerry Stucky will be one of several for sale.

“I enjoy sharing talents and meeting other artists in our community,” says Stucky.

Stucky saved an original old cabinet drawer from Westport High School before it was demolished. Being the creative spirit she is, this drawer has been recreated into a unique dog bed that will be showcased at the Art Fest. Both Stucky and Brown have created other clever dog beds from recycled tires.

Dogs on a leash are welcome on the patio of the brewery and there is also an adjoining free dog park. Children can enjoy activities with paper collage and chalk drawing.

The Transparent Brewing Co. just celebrated their 4th Anniversary as an award winning micro brewery. They feature craft beers on draft, ciders and locally made soda Polly Pop. Nolan says, “The best thing about running his micro-brewery in Grandview is community coming together to develop and encourage relationships, interactions and conversation.”

Handmade tacos and quesadillas will be available from the kitchen.

There will also be live entertainment featuring music as well as a performance from the Martin City Melodrama. “The Silver Snout Cabaret” is scheduled for 2 pm in the new event space on the property. This family show includes song dance comedy and senior dog rescue pawformers from area shelters.

The Brown family continues to contribute as entrepreneurs in the Grandview area. Nolan’s father and Michelle’s husband, Mark Brown, just retired from Burger and Brown, a precision manufacturing company, after 29 years of service in the Grandview area.

The event will have plenty of free parking. Local artists can still sign up for a booth by calling 816-499-8888. And don’t worry pumpkin lovers, Michelle says you will actually see some pumpkins at Art Fest 2024.
