Pegah’s to open coffee shop/ restaurant in Martin City

While Martin City may have lost one notable restaurant, another one steps up to the plate, rounding out the community’s reputation as a foodie destination.

Pegah’s Family Restaurant has purchased the property at 131st and Holmes Road, formerly known as P.S. Coffee and Ramsey’s Burgers. The breakfast and lunch restaurant will primarily be a drive-thru with limited seating inside.

“I’ve always wanted to do a drive-thru restaurant,” says Moe Sharifi, founder of Pegah’s which opened in downtown Shawnee, Kansas, in 1987. Since then, he has opened three other locations throughout the metropolitan area, all sit-down service for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Shawnee restaurant gained notoriety a couple of years ago when it became a favorite of Chiefs player Isiah Pacheco.

Pegah’s Cafe and Coffee in Martin City will be different from Sharifi’s other restaurants. In addition to its drive thru, it will also serve lattes, espressos, cappuccinos and such.

“The full-service coffee will be new for Pegah’s,” says Sharifi.

The menu offerings will also be limited. Sharifi plans to serve biscuits and gravy, breakfast wraps and bowls, cottage fries, avocado toast, sandwiches and salads.

Sharifi adds that he looks forward to working with the community and participating in fundraising opportunities.

The small space can seat about 30 guests both inside and out.

The restaurant will be open from 6 am to 7 pm daily. Breakfast will be available throughout the day.

Sharifi expects a March opening.
