At an April 12 ceremony, the Quilts of Valor Foundation honored Veteran Don Green with a handmade quilt made by quilters of St. John United Methodist Church in south Kansas City. The quilt honors Don’s 21 years of service in the US Army Infantry.
In addition to his active service in the Vietnam War and work as a research and analysis officer at Fort Benning, Don served in the Old Guard, which provides support for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.
Don retired in 1975 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Throughout his career he received the Legion of Merit Medal, the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross.
Don lives with his wife Joan at Village Cooperative of Verona Hills in Kansas City.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation’s mission is to heal service members and veterans touched by war, and to date has gifted hundreds of thousands of quilts in the United States and in military hospitals around the world. Learn more at www.qovf.org.
