Jason Williams prepares to cut the red ribbon during the grand opening of the newly relocated Belton License Office on 347 N. Scott Rd.

Belton License Office moves to new location

“Provided it’s not a Friday or end of month, you are in the door, out the door in 15 minutes.”

The Belton License Office has moved to a cabin down the road.

On Wednesday morning, the Belton Chamber of Commerce and City of Belton celebrated the official grand opening of the newly relocated Department of Motor Vehicles at 347 N. Scott Ave. That location had previously been known as the Family Cabin Restaurant, which closed in 2024 after 38 years in business.

The Belton License Office has been operating in the historic Downtown Main Street district at 325 Main St. for 30 years.

A lease agreement could not be reached with the Main Street property owner, according to Jason Williams, agent and owner of Bella Risk WS, LLC which operates the license office.

“We have to have stability with a license office and we were not able to achieve that with the [Main Street] location,” he says. The license office now has a 5-year contract with 5-year option. The previous agreement was month to month.

“We’re excited to be here,” says Williams, pointing out the ample parking space.  “We hope not to need all these parking spaces because we are so fast.”

Then new interior of the DMV.

Williams says the Belton office will continue to provide quick service once they have ironed out the wrinkles. “Provided it’s not a Friday or end of month, you are in the door, out the door in 15 minutes,” he told the grand opening audience.

Wait time will be made sweeter with the addition of the DMV Brews Coffee, an in-house retail space selling coffee beverages and pastries. The available service takes advantage of the former restaurant’s full kitchen. The small coffee shop will be available in the next few months, after the space has been fully remodeled and various commercial appliances removed.

Williams says he’s been “living” at the property these last few weeks, sometimes working from 4 am to 10 pm. “It’s has been one of the hardest clean ups I’ve ever had to do,” he said.  The hard work paid off. The office opened three weeks ahead of schedule.

Williams’ company, Bella Risk, owns five other license offices–Gladstone, Liberty, Sedalia, North Kansas City, and soon, a new location in Lee’s Summit off 150 Hwy. All Missouri license offices are operated by independent contractors who are governed and overseen by the Missouri Department of Revenue.

“We really strive to make a happy community that is happy with the [license] office,” says Williams of his company.
