Baptist church rebrands to celebrate inclusivity

Holmeswood congregation discerned need for name change

The church formerly known as Holmeswood Baptist, located at 9700 Holmes Rd, has announced a name change and rebranding to Holmeswood Church: Baptist Roots, Inclusive Branches. The shift reflects the church’s Christian foundation while emphasizing commitment to women in leadership, full participation from members of the LGBTQ+ community and racial equality.

“I love it,” said Pastor David McDaniel. “The word ‘Baptist’ sometimes carries cultural baggage such as being disconnected or tied to controversies that do not reflect who we are.”

“Holmeswood is a congregation that celebrates the divine diversity of people.”

The change came after a year and half of congregation listening sessions and discernment. According to Pastor McDaniel, attendance is up and the campus is undergoing renovations including new paint and lighting, upgraded HVAC systems and parking lot resurfacing.

  1. Jesus had no problem being disconnected and tied to controversies….He had no problem speaking the truth about sins that without true repentance will send someone to hell…out of real love He spoke the truth not just sweet things to tickle the ears.
