KCMO Public Works Department staff explained to interested persons at a public meeting September 15 at Martin City K-8 School that plans for improving Holmes Rd. from its intersection with Blue Ridge Ext. to its intersection with 135th St. (and perhaps south to 137th St. if funds are available) are about 60% complete and should be finalized by February.
Since the city is suspending street construction to not interfere with hosting the World Cup in 2026, city staff said construction of the Holmes Rd. improvements planned to include three lanes of traffic, a 10-foot wide multiuse trail on the west side of the street and a 5 foot wide sidewalk on the east side of the street probably will begin in March 2027 and be completed by the end of that year. The street is expected to remain open to traffic during construction.
Staff said the city plans to start contacting adjacent property owners in the near future about acquiring construction easements and additional right-of-way and should put construction out to bid in September 2026.
