Event starts with a dedication of the new Ruskin Heights Tornado Memorial.

Community Day and Tornado Memorial Dedication set for Hickman Mills

Celebration offers up free food and fun at Ruskin High

The Ruskin Heights Neighborhood Association will host Hickman Mills Community Day on October 18 at Ruskin High School, 7000 E. 111th St.

The free community gathering is open to all, beginning at 10 am with the dedication of the new Ruskin Heights Tornado Memorial.

Following the honors, there will be food and drinks, games, prizes, bounce houses and live music until 2 pm.

The tornado monument honors the casualties lost in the 1957 Ruskin Heights Tornado. The 12-foot tall brick structure was destroyed in an automobile crash in 2024. The monument has recently been rebuilt, thanks to donations from community members and businesses.
