Drive-thru location to sign Respect Missouri Voters petition this weekend

The Respect Missouri Voters petitions would ban elected officials from overturning the will of the people.

On Thursday, Missouri Realtors sued to invalidate elected officials’ attempt to gut the state’s initiative petition process.  On Saturday, volunteers will be gathering signatures for the opposite action – the Respect Missouri Voters campaign to protect and enhance the initiative petition.

Six drive-through locations will be open this weekend to allow registered voters to easily sign the Respect Missouri Voters petitions – which would ban elected officials from overturning the will of the people.  Locations are as follows:

  • Trinity Methodist Church, 620 E Armour Road, KCMO 64109  (Parking lot to the east of the church) from 9am – noon
  • First Baptist Church, 100 W Red Bridge Road, KCMO, 64114 from 10a – 1p
  • Integrity Group Realtors parking lot, 103 S Jefferson, Raymore, MO 64083 from 10am – 2pm
  • The Table, 3609 MO-7, Blue Springs, MO 64014  10am – 1pm

Additional drive-through signings will be held:

Sunday, Oct 26th

  • Romanelli Fountain, 69th and Wornall, KCMO 64113 from 12 – 3pm

Monday, Oct 27th

  • Liberty Street Community of Christ Church, 416 N Liberty St, Independence, MO 64050 from 4-6pm

The Respect Missouri Voters proposal has three key elements:

  • Require ballot language of initiative petition proposals to be clear, unbiased, fair, accurate, and easy to understand.
  • Prohibit the legislature from making it more difficult to gather signatures or pass proposals at the ballot box.
  • Prohibit the legislature from overturning or changing initiatives passed by voters unless an 89 percent bipartisan supermajority sends changes to voters to approve.
