On February 14 around 1:30 pm, Ambulance services responded to the area of Martha Truman Road and Blue River Road to meet South Patrol Officers on a reported injury collision with life threatening injuries. Preliminary investigation revealed that a white Dodge Ram Pickup was traveling southbound on Blue River Road at a high rate of speed. The Dodge failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway and ran off the roadway to the right. The Dodge traveled through the dirt shoulder of the roadway, up a dirt mound and was launched into the tree line. The Dodge rotated 180 degrees, striking a large tree before coming to rest.
The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge was ejected from the vehicle during the collision events. The driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, and he was subsequently pronounced deceased by hospital staff shortly after arrival
This is fatality #8 compared to #5 at this time last year and the investigation is ongoing.
