AARP cancels free tax help for seniors
Due to concerns about Covid-19, volunteers from AARP will not be offering free help this year at local public libraries for those with questions about filing federal and state taxes. They are only providing help with property tax credits and rent rebates—call 816-974-3135 for assistance.
Also cancelled are face-to-face tax help sessions through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program operated by the Kansas City Metro Tax Coalition. In past years this help was offered at the Kansas City Police Department’s South Patrol Station and other locations for households earning less than $57,000 per year. This year the VITA program will be virtual, with information being exchanged by phone, fax, mail, email, video conference and file sharing. For details see extension.missouri.edu/counties/urban-west-region/tax-prep or call the 211 United Way helpline.
