Orienteering and GPS: Intro to Wilderness Navigation – Map, Compass, GPS @ Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center

Registration required (adults). Learn how to read a topographical map for wilderness travel and how to use a compass and GPS with that topo map. A full day of learning and an orienteering course taught by Eileen McManus, local outings chair of the Sierra Club. Before class: Please read Wilderness Navigation: Finding Your Way Using a Map, Compass, Altimeter and GPS by Bob and Mike Burns (Mountaineers Books, 2025 fourth edition). For class: Bring a compass with a clear baseplate (contact the instructor if you need one reserved). Bring a lunch and drink; no food or drink provided.
