Sunnyside Park at 8329 Summit St., now has two new pickleball courts.
The city celebrated an official grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, August 26. Sixth District City Councilman Johnathan Duncan and Sixth District City at Large Councilman Andrea Bough were joined by Parks and Recreation Director Chris Cotton, Deputy Director James Wang, Project Manager Daniel Weber and Sixth District PIAC Representative Kristi Ashton as well as a few pickleball players and visitor.
Featuring a striking blue and gray color scheme, the new courts feature regulatory signs for recommended rotation procedures, player rules, and ADA compliant bench seating. Other ADA improvements were also implemented around Sunnyside Park.
The courts were funded by the City’s Public Improvements Advisory Committee (PIAC) and installed by Tarkett Sports Construction (formerly PCC Sports) under the direction of Weber.
Pickleball, invented in 1965, continues to grow increasingly popular in the metro.
