Martin City names new CID Director
By Kathy Feist
The Martin City Community Improvement District (MCCID) has hired the South KC Chamber of Commerce to manage the MCCID. South KC Chamber of Commerce President Vickie Wolgast will serve as District Manager under a managed services agreement between the SKCC and MCCID.
The contract includes a monthly fee paid to the South KC Chamber. The fee will help with the expense of hiring an administrative assistant for Wolgast so she can continue to wear both hats.
Wolgast will be the fourth CID manager since it was formed in 2005. Tiffany Moore, who was hired in November 2017, resigned on March 31st. Previous managers have pointed to the heavy time commitment to the job and dealing with conflicting personalities. But unlike her predecessors, Wolgast, who regularly attends CID meetings and works with the Martin City business community, is familiar with the personalities and the time commitment.
As CID manager, Wolgast will oversee the completion of Phase III of the 135th Street Improvement, which is anticipated to end this Fall. She will also oversee the Holmes Rd. expansion from Blue Ridge Blvd. to 137th St., which is only now in its design phase. She will also deal with the promotion of Martin City, which includes the St. Patrick’s Parade and the Christmas Lighting Ceremony.
Her own goal as CID Manager is to have a strategic planning session with community businesses. “I want everyone to feel like they have a voice around here,” she says. She says she would also like to work on getting a grocery store in Martin City, especially with the possibility of two new apartment complexes being built around 135th and Holmes Rd.
Wolgast originates from Mansfield, MO. She worked for the Branson Chamber of Commerce before getting a job at the Grandview Chamber of Commerce in 1995. She became President of the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce in 2006. She is married to Mike Wolgast and has two teenage children.
