Botanica Flower Studio opens in Waldo

A fresh, new flower shop has bloomed in Waldo this fall. Botanica Flower Studio opened its doors in October, and owner Heather Coones is excited to be able to offer “free-spirited flower arrangements for everyday occasions, weddings, corporate events, and celebrations”.
“Floral design has always been a dream [of mine], even as a child,” Coones said.
Coones began Botanica Flower Studio as a home-based business in 2002 after making the decision to stay home with her oldest son. And the opening of the Botanica storefront was a dream that is now a reality.
“I thought I’d like to have a storefront, and when I saw this space, I knew it had a lot of potential,” she said. “I chose the Waldo location because it’s unique and everyone is so supportive of small businesses. I really like it!”
The 550 square foot space (near Waldo Pizza) offers a courtyard in the back, which allows Coones to offer floral design and seasonal arrangement workshops, as well as host showers, private dinner parties, and birthday parties. The indoor space showcases beautiful and unique flowers and floral arrangements. It also features a few gift items such as candles, Cedar Street toffee, and unique vases. She is proud to say that the local company Pickwick Candles is creating a signature candle for Botanica, available later this month..
Coones admits that it was a little intimidating to open Botanica during a pandemic, but she’s been able to expand her business because of it. Event cancellations have allowed her more time to focus on daily orders and deliveries, which have increased due to more people sending flowers during this time. Botanica also offers subscription services and online ordering.
Coones is excited for the new opportunities that lie ahead. “My hope is to bring joy into homes and create memorable events through flowers and details,” she said. “That is what I love.”
