The Limit is back.
Sort of. If a new name, new owner and new menu can constitute “sort of.”
After years of sitting dark and empty, the bar building on the north side of Red Bridge Shopping Center has reopened as The Limit Pub & Grub and set for a grand opening Dec. 21. The new bar, remodeled down to the studs, takes the place of the longtime Daily Limit which fell victim to the economic slowdown during the early days of the pandemic.
New owner Darrell Kidd, who grew up in south Kansas City and spent most of his working life in the mortgage business, used to frequent the old place, and the one before that. He knows exactly what he wants the new place to be.
“This is a neighborhood bar,” he said earlier this week. “I’d love for people from downtown or Lee’s Summit to come here, great, but this is going to be a place for people in this area.”
Kidd said navigating the city’s bureaucracy to get the doors open turned into quite the nightmare, but everything is now ready to roll. For a week or so, the 2,200-square-foot bar at 523 Red Bridge has been in “soft-opening” mode.
“So everything that will blow up will…and it did,” Kidd said. “Prep table went out. Had to get a new one.”
With a total makeover, the new Limit has a full menu featuring burgers, dogs, pizza, shrimp and catfish. The bar offers 10 beers on tap, plenty of bottled beer, specialty drinks and martinis. Large Samsungs are anywhere you look and the place will have patio seating once the weather allows for concrete pouring. The eventual plan is to open at 9:30 a.m. for breakfast.
Not a lot of bars open for breakfast.
“We’re a small bar and if we’re gonna make it,” Kidd said, “we’re going to have to be different.”
