6th District Fall Clean Up scheduled this Saturday

What might be the last city-sponsored big clean up event in south Kansas City this fall that is open to all Kansas City residents and will accept a wide variety of items for no charge will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 22. 

Drop-off sites will be in the parking lot of South-Broadland Presbyterian Church, 7850 Holmes Rd., and in the east parking lot of Ruskin High School, 7000 E. 111th St.

Both locations will accept brush & leaves, bulky items such as old furniture, tires (including tires still on the wheels) and trash.

They also will accept certain electronics and accessories for no charge – desktop & laptop computers, flat screen computer monitors, cables & wires, ink & toner and networking equipment.

There are cash only charges of $20 for flat screen TVs and small personal printers and $40 for wood console & projection TVs and large printers & copiers.

Both sites also will provide free on site document shredding.

City residents also may drop off many kinds of items that are in good condition and working order to be donated to area Disabled American Veterans Red Racks Thrift Stores at the Ruskin High School site.

Items accepted include clothing, furniture, houseware & kitchenware such as dishes & linens, small appliances & musical instruments, sports equipment, tools, toys and TVs with flat fronts and backs.

No hazardous waste such as automotive products, flammables, household cleaners, lawn & garden products and paint will be accepted.

The clean up will be conducted by the City Public Works Department and community partners and is sponsored by Councilmembers Andrea Bough and Mayor Pro Tem Kevin McManus, Community Assistance Council and South Kansas City Alliance.
