Fourth Annual “Souper” Bowl Of Caring For the Red Bridge Community
February 1 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
“On the first week-end of February, most will be thinking about football. Some will also be thinking of those lacking food in our immediate south Kansas City neighborhood. The Red Bridge Area Food Pantry and the churches and organizations supporting it are hosting a Fourth Annual Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. All families, organizations, churches and businesses are urged to participate.
Food collection of any nonperishable food items plus household paper goods will be on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. The Red Bridge Food Pantry is located in the First Baptist Church at the corner of Red Bridge and Wornall Roads. Please enter through the blue canopy on the north sifirde of the church. The building is fully accessible. Volunteers are needed to help count and sort the food as it arrives. Volunteers are also needed to help transfer the food from vehicles in the parking lot to the food pantry.
At 5:00 pm, the community is invited to a free Community Dinner of home-made soup, salad, bread and dessert. SunFresh Market is providing bread and dessert. Every year over 20 varieties of home-made soup are prepared. All are welcome to attend the dinner in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church, located at 100 West Red Bridge Road at Wornall Road. All of the paper products used in the meal will be 100% compostable through the Compost Collective of KC.
If delivering food to the pantry on that Saturday is difficult, food may be dropped off at the Canopy entrance on the North Side of First Baptist Church any week-day, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.
Hunger in our community in South KC is largely a hidden problem, but it is real, and we urge our community to join together to help overcome hunger in our neighborhood.
