Party on the Prairie @ Jerry Smith Park

Celebrate National Trails and Prairie Day with KC Parks and KC Wildlands at a Party on the Prairie! Enjoy family and environmentally friendly activities amidst the flora and fauna of Jackson County’s only remnant prairie. Live music, guided trail hikes, bird walks, hay rides, plein air quick paint competition, scavenger hunt, prairie touch table from Lakeside Nature Center and more!  Directions: 3/4 of a mile east of 139th & Holmes Rd.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS (subject to change)
8 a.m. Bird Walk
8-9 a.m.: Quick Paint Artist Check-in
8 a.m.-Noon: Horse-Drawn Hay Rides and Prairie Touch Table from Lakeside Nature Center
9-11 a.m.: Guided Prairie Scavenger Hunts
9-11:30 a.m.: Live Music by Calvin Arsenia
9-11 a.m.: Quick Paint Competition
10 a.m.Prairie Hike – 1.25 mile loop hike (for older children and adults)
10 a.m.: Free Hot Dog, Chips and Water (served until we run out)
10:30 a.m. Prairie Hike Lite – short, accessible walk to the overlook and back (good for younger kids)
11-11:30 a.m.: Quick Paint Judging
11:30 a.m.: Quick Paint Purchase Award
