Some Things Old and New But Nothing Blue @ First Church of the Nazarene Kansas City

Pinnacle Winds, Kansas City’s professional concert band, performs an afternoon spanning 125 years of extraordinary wind band music, from Sousa, Fillmore and Grainger to exciting works by today’s leading composers. Pinnacle Winds Music Director and Conductor Dr. John C. Carmichael welcomes Dr. Robert S. Hansbrough as guest conductor for this celebration of the wind band’s rich past and exciting future. Hansbrough and Carmichael share a musical connection stretching back more than three decades, having served together on the faculty at Western Kentucky University from 1995 to 1999, where they collaborated in conducting the university’s ensembles. This concert reunites the two longtime colleagues on the podium with Pinnacle Winds. A special highlight is the Midwestern premiere of Tyler Harrison’s Concerto for Soprano Saxophone and Wind Ensemble, featuring Pinnacle Winds’ own Nicholas May on soprano saxophone. This exciting three-movement work, performed without pause, places extraordinary technical and musical demands on the soloist and represents an important new addition to the repertoire for soprano saxophone and wind ensemble. Located at First Church of the Nazarene Kansas City, 11811 State Line Rd. Tickets $20 adults, $10 students, available online and at the door.
