The city of Grandview received the Arbor Award of Excellence in September from the Missouri Department of Conservation for its preservation and addition of trees and for ensuring the city has a variety of species.
The award is only given to one Missouri municipality a year.
“My goal has been to make Grandview an Arbor First City, and this is a great way to show we’re moving in the right direction, said Parks & Facilities Manager Andy Larson.
Thanks to a grant from the Department, Grandview recently completed an inventory of trees on all city land including city facilities which includes the species of the trees and their overall condition which will be posted on the city’s website.
Another $49,000 Department grant will allow the city to thin and trim any trees in the inventory and to remove trees that are in unsafe condition or at unsafe locations. Work is expected to start later this month.
