Farms on both sides of the state line open starting in late August, with pumpkin season running through Halloween.
On the Missouri side, Suburban Lawn and Garden Fall Fest, 4 W. 135 St. in Martin City offers a free pumpkin patch with a hayride, and on select weekends starting October 2– popcorn, face painting, balloon art, and magicians.
Johnson Farms Plants and Pumpkins, 17701 Holmes Rd. in Belton, opens its retail store August 28 featuring large, vibrantly colorful mums grown on site, lantana and various fall and Halloween related items. On September 11, the farm opens to the public featuring 50 acres of pumpkins, a 5000-tree apple orchard for apple picking, u-cut sunflowers and zinnias, a corn maze, hayrides, farm animals, and yard games.
Faulkner’s Ranch, 10600 Raytown Rd. in south Kansas City, opens October 2 for its 28th season with more than 30 activities including hayrides, a corn maze, pig races, farm animals, pony rides, a megaslide, and one of the metro’s largest patches.
Red Barn Ranch, 2311 S Jefferson Parkway in Harrisonville, offers a genuine working farm experience where families can pick pumpkins, explore a corn maze, enjoy giant slides, and try the corn cannon. The property features goats and alpacas in a petting area, sunflower fields for photos, and a nature trail. The pumpkin patch and fall festival runs every weekend from September 19 to November 1.
On the Kansas side, Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead’s Pumpkin Hollow, 13800 Switzer Rd., runs September 22 through October 18, with a horse-drawn hayride down to the hollow, a hay pyramid, giant slide, spider web maze, pedal car racetrack, and pumpkin patch. Admission charged.
Louisburg Cider Mill’s Ciderfest, 14730 K68 Hwy in Louisburg, runs September 26 to 27 and October 3 to 4. Visitors can watch fresh apples pressed into cider, and with pancake breakfast each day of the festival, followed by live cider and donut-making demonstrations, bluegrass music, pony rides, inflatable slides, and craft booths. The pumpkin patch and 10-acre corn maze remain open mid-September through October, with admission charged throughout the season.
Sharp’s Farm and Country Hayrides, 20915 Mission Rd, in Stilwell hosts private horse-drawn hayrides along Massey Creek, with a picnic area, shelter, bonfire, and dance floor for groups; call to schedule.
Everly Turf Farm, 25808 S. State Route C in Peculiar, has a corn maze, flower field, playground area and pumpkin patch. The family farm is open daily from sunup to sundown for old-fashioned outdoor family fun.
