Fatal shooting at Bannister & James A Reed Rd

Monday afternoon just after 1pm officers were dispatched to the 8100 block of Bannister Rd on a shooting call.
On arrival officers were directed to a vehicle in the convenience store/gas station parking lot, inside that vehicle officers located an adult male shooting victim unresponsive.

Officers summoned EMS to the scene who transported the victim to the hospital where he was declared deceased.   The victim in this case has been identified as Kirk M Whittaker, age 34, a resident of the area.

Preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred in the business parking lot when an unknown suspect shot the victim near the vehicle. The suspect then left the scene in an unknown direction.

Detectives and crime scene investigators are processing the scene for evidence and canvassing for any potential witnesses.

Both Bannister Road and James A Reed road are well traveled this time of day and detectives are hopeful that someone heard or saw something that will give them some indication of what led up to the shooting.
