FEMA holds Girl Scout Day on Aug. 3
Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to a free day of demonstrations, talks and safety drills on Friday, Aug. 3 at the FEMA Region VII office just south of the Red Bridge Shopping Center.
The program is open to all Daisies, Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes, whether attending as individuals or with a troop. In addition to touring the new FEMA office, the girls will take part in a hands-on flood box demo, perform and create disaster simulations, meet and interact with first responders, talk with women leaders throughout the organization and learn about the Red Cross Pillowcase Project.
Participants will have the opportunity to earn a disaster readiness patch. Parents of scouts are welcome to attend, or they may drop off their daughters at 8 a.m. and pick them up at 3 p.m. (girls should bring a lunch). Registration is required. Contact Kasey Cannon at Kasey.Cannon@fema.dhs.gov or 816-276-5075.
FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The office is located at 11224 Holmes Road.
