A firefighter with the Kansas City Fire Department was struck by a passing car while working a motor vehicle accident at 85th and Main just after 3:30 p.m. today. The firefighter sustained significant injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The KCFD firefighter is in stable condition and expected to make a full recovery. The original accident involved two vehicles and was a non-injury accident. The KCFD firefighter was directing traffic while the occupants were being evaluated. The driver who struck the KCFD member stopped and cooperated fully with police on the scene. The name of the firefighter is not currently being released for privacy reasons.
KCFD would like to encourage all drivers to slow down and pay special attention when approaching flashing lights and accident scenes.
