Flags lowered after passing of Raymore Councilman Tom Engert

Raymore Ward 4 Councilman Tom Engert died late on Saturday, Aug. 1, according to a press release from Mayor Kristofer Turnbow. Engert was first elected to the Raymore City Council in 2023. He previously served on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission as well as the Cass County Emergency Services Board.

Engert spent his life in service to others, according to the release. He began his law enforcement career in 1974 as a dispatcher and reserve officer for the Kansas City Police Department and then served as a Grandview police officer from Oct. 1978 until Sept. 2000, spending much of that time as a D.A.R.E officer. After retirement, Engert spent a decade in the investigations unit at Sprint, the release goes on. After that retirement, Engert taught as an instructor at Metropolitan Community College Blue River’s Public Safety Institute.

“Tom’s commitment to public service never stopped. Long after hanging up his badge, he continued showing up for his neighbors, his city and the people he cared about,” the mayor said in the release.

Mayor Turnbow also released a proclamation ordering that the U.S. flag be flown at all facilities owned by the City of Raymore from sunrise on Monday, Aug. 3, through sunset on Tuesday, Aug. 4, in honor of Engert’s contributions to the city. He also expressed condolences to Engert’s wife, Candy Engert, as well as his family and friends.
