All KCMO residents will have another opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted items from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 9, at three drop-off locations in south Kansas City in the 5th Council District following two similar heavily utilized drop-off events May 2 in the 6th District.
The event in the rear parking lot of Ruskin High School, 7000 E. 111th St., will accept the widest variety of items including bulky items such as old furniture, leaves & brush, tires with or without wheels and trash – all accepted with no charge – and certain types of electronics – accepted for fees.
There is a $5 fee for CRT monitors; a $10 fee for air conditioners, dehumidifiers, freezers & refrigerators; a $20 fee for LCD, LED & plasma flat screen TVs of all sizes; a $30 to $50 fee for CRT TVs based on size; and a $50 fee for console & projection TVs.
The Ruskin site also will provide free on-site document shredding.
The Center Academy for Success site, 8434 Paseo, will provide the same services as the Ruskin site except it will not accept electronics, as will the Southeast High School site, 3500 E. Meyer Blvd., except it too will not accept electronics and will not offer document shredding.
None of the sites will accept household hazardous waste such as insecticides, pesticides & paint, although it is anticipated such items will be accepted at fall drop-offs.
The two drop-off events in southwest KCMO in the 6th District collected approximately 120 tons of trash and bulky items and about 14 tons of leaves and brush and also took in 1,772 tires
