Household hazardous waste may be dropped off free by KCMO residents from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 31, at the south parking lot of Ruskin High School, 7000 E. 111th St.
Items that will be accepted include automotive products, batteries, CFL light bulbs, flammables, household cleaners, lawn & garden products, paint and used oil.
Items that will not be accepted include asbestos, containers bigger than five gallons, fire extinguishers, fireworks, Freon, medical waste & needles, prescription drugs and propane bottles over one pound.
Appliances, tires, trash and yard waste also will not be accepted.
Hazardous waste normally must be taken to the city’s Environmental Campus at 4707 Deramus Ave. to be properly disposed of.
The event originally was scheduled for the school’s east parking lot, but had to be moved to the south parking lot on E. 111th St. at the front of the school due to construction.

The event is sponsored by 6th District City Council members Andrea Bough & Kevin McManus, Community Assistance Council and South Kansas City Alliance.
