Superintendent Kenny Rodrequez will leave the district after completing his contract with the Grandview C-4 School District on June 30, the district said in a Monday press release. Rodrequez will return to his home state of Oklahoma to serve as the next superintendent for Putnam City Public Schools, the release says.
Rodrequez has been with the district for 12 years, spending a decade as superintendent of schools. The Grandview C-4 School District experienced academic growth, consecutive bond and levy passages, significant facility improvements and strengthened community partnerships under his leadership, the release says.
“Serving this district has been the most rewarding experience of my career,” Rodrequez said in the release. “Grandview will always hold a special place in my heart. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our staff, students, families, and community.”
Rodrequez is celebrated in Grandview for his support of a $45 million bond issue in 2021 and another $50 million bond issue in 2024, according to past Telegraph reporting. The 2024 bond issue, which funded security, facility, classroom and energy efficiency efforts, was the largest in Grandview’s history, according to the superintendent.
Rodrequez’s accolades include being named as 2024 Missouri Superintendent of the Year and as one of the 2024-25 Outstanding Administrators by Project Lead The Way.
The district still faces challenges despite $95 million in funding for improvements passed. Grandview’s 2024 Annual Performance Report score of 63.7% was among the lowest scores reported by south Kansas City schools. School districts scoring an APR score of 60% or lower are often in danger of becoming partially accredited or losing state accreditation if 50% or lower.
However, the district earned an 86.6% score for continuous improvement of student performance. The growth specifically highlighted improvement in English, but marked math and attendance as areas needing improvement.
“We are on the right track academically,” Rodrequez told the Telegraph in December.
Grandview School Board President Helen Ransom congratulated Rodrequez on his new role in Oklahoma, noting the “tremendous bridges and opportunities” he built. She also said the district is sad to see him go, but it is looking forward to what he does next.
“We are incredibly thankful for Dr. Rodrequez’s stellar leadership over the past decade,” said Ransom. “We are proud that Grandview C-4 has been such an important part of his professional journey.”
