The Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council along with numerous co-sponsors is hosting a free International Day of Peace Festival from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, September 21, at Hillcrest Community Center, 10401 Hillcrest Rd., that will focus on what groups and individuals can do to reduce violence and promote peace here in the Kansas City area and throughout the world.
The festival will feature workshops on promoting human rights and deterring violence and war without threats, meditations and prayers for peace by multiple faith groups, poetry reading and story telling.
Advance reservations are not required.
Musical performers will include nationally acclaimed jazz vocalist David Basse, a master of the music of the Andes region of South America, Amado Espinoza who plays over 40
instruments and the Traditional Music Society drum ensemble that plays traditional music from West Africa.
