Local Historian and Telegraph columnist Diane Euston to speak on the history of South Kansas City
Diane Euston, who writes popular articles on Kansas City’s past in each issue of the Telegraph, will give a presentation on the history of south Kansas City neighborhoods at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11. The evening begins with an informal cocktail hour at St. Thomas More School, where light appetizers, beer and wine will be provided. At 6:30 p.m. she will speak on “If This Ground Could Talk…The History of Early South Kansas City.”
What was travel on the Santa Fe Trail really like? Did the Jayhawkers storm onto your land and burn down what was once there? Who were the rich landowners in the area, and how did they influence the future? What did slavery look like in Jackson County? Euston will address these questions through historic photos and stories that include humor, quips and quirky pieces of the past.
