Home sweet home: Verona Hills house gets TV makeover

One of the properties that will be featured in the 6th season of “Bargain Mansions” sits in the Verona Hills neighborhood at the corner of Summit Street and Madison Avenue where it backs up to the edge of a Barstow School sports field.

The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home will look completely different when designer Tamara Day and her father Ward Schraeder are finished with it, say film crew workers who were doing initial work for the TV series earlier this month.

According to Zillow.com, the 33-year-old home is 5,100 square feet and is valued at $590,700. Renovations are being requested by the children of the original owners.

“The bigger the home, the bigger the challenge,” says Day’s website, which describes the Kansas City native as passionate about restoring neglected large homes and bringing them back to life.

“Bargain Mansions” can be found on the Magnolia Network. Day, designer and host, is a wife and mother of four who says she aims for a mix of glam and cozy. She and her team have renovated more than 50 houses since the show began. She identifies Kansas City as a character in every episode, and features local businesses and scenery. Last winter she was a presenter at the KC Home and Garden Show.

The episode of “Bargain Mansions” that features the house at 11712 Madison Avenue does not yet have a premiere date, say the producers. It could be next spring or summer.
