Emergency crews responded to meet South Patrol Officers at 7:53 a.m. Friday, April 19th, on a confirmed fatality collision/car versus train.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Union Pacific Railroad freight train was traveling northbound along the railroad tracks. A blue Jaguar S-type was traveling northbound on Holmes where it went around the first lowered train warning arm at 133rd and Holmes Rd., ignoring the warning lights and audible signals. The Jaguar then attempted to get around the second train crossing arm and was struck by the front engine of the approaching train.
The unrestrained driver and sole occupant of the Jaguar was pronounced deceased at the scene. The train crew (engineer and conductor) were uninjured in the collision.
The driver of the Jaguar has been identified as Richard T. Buford, age 39.
This is fatality #35 compared to #22 at this time last year.
