Lutheran High School track coach named MSHSAA Coach of the Year

Lutheran High School Track Coach is Coach of the Year

Coach Daniel Gibson, Track Coach at the Lutheran High School of Kansas City, 124ll Wornall Road, was awarded the Coach of the Year plaque by Don Maurer,  Missouri State High School Activities Association MSHSAA) representative, who came from Columbia, Mo. to present the award at a special assembly at the high school Friday, September 6. The award is for the girls track team which won first place in the cross country state meet last November. Coach Gibson’s Lutheran High School boys cross country team also won first place the same day in Jefferson City.. 

Twenty-eight year old Coach Gibson is a graduate of Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. He teaches at Hope Lutheran grade school in Kansas and then travels to the Lutheran High School in Missouri to coach track after school. This is his second year coaching at Lutheran High. 

“Sometimes we run fast for short distances, other times we run slower when we do a 5K,” said high school senior Lauren Ada. “I think running fast for shorter distances is harder.” She was on the team last year and hopes this year’s team can repeat its success. 

“The girls are very supportive and encouraging of each other,” said Coach Gibson, who stays in shape by running with the girls. “That is why we are so successful!”
