
The Little Big Band, a 16 member swing-jazz band will play at the Martin City Melodrama & Vaudeville (MCMV) on Friday evening, March 9th with the start of the music at 7:30 p.m. The band, headed, by saxophonist Lew Roht is proud to announce its move to the MCMV, at its new location: 702 Blue Ridge Blvd. The band had been a regular attraction at RCs restaurant in Martin City for many years. The concert will feature great swing music from Broadway shows including Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Cabaret, Smokey Joe’s Café, Man of La Mancha, Damn Yankees and many more.
In an interview with the Martin City Telegraph, Roht offered some background into the program. He said that music for the theater has been composed by many of the greatest of American songwriters, including George and Ira Gershwin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Rodgers & Hart, Cole Porter, and Frank Loesser among others. Many of the songs have become classics of The Great American Songbook and will be familiar to everyone.
