Deadline Approaching
By John Sharp
Property owners still have time to appeal the assessed market value of their property since the Jackson County Board of Equalization again has extended the deadline for appeals to 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 3.
Persons may obtain an appeal application by going online to www.jacksongov.org/boeappeals and under Appeal Application clicking on 2019 BOE Market Value Appeal Application. They may also request an application be mailed to them by calling 816-881-3309 or by mailing a request to Board of Equalization, Room 102, 415 E. 12th St., KCMO 64106.
The completed application and supporting documentation must be delivered to the Board of Equalization office or emailed to boardofequalization@jacksongov.org by 5 p.m. September 3 or mailed and postmarked by September 3 to the Board of Equalization office.
Supporting documentation can include a recent appraisal of the property in question by a certified appraiser, sale prices of comparable property in the same neighborhood, interior and exterior pictures of the property showing examples of deferred maintenance or needed repairs and written estimates for repairs from a legitimate contractor.
