Around 5:30 a.m., local ambulance services responded to South Patrol personnel in regard to an injury collision involving a pedestrian. Investigation revealed that a pedestrian was in the middle of the southbound exit ramp lanes of traffic from Interstate 49 to Blue Ridge Boulevard when they were struck by a south traveling Dodge Challenger. At last update, the pedestrian was classified as being in critical condition. The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and cooperated during the investigation. Investigation is ongoing.
Update: The pedestrian has been pronounced deceased by hospital staff on 06/04/2024, at 1432 hours. This is fatality #46 compared to #32 at this time last year.
