Tanner’s in Red Bridge Shopping Center will close on June 28

KC Hopps, Ltd. has announced that Tanner’s, located at 11134 Holmes Rd. in the Red Bridge Shopping Center, will shut its doors on Sunday, June 28th. 

“Tanner’s was not successful in negotiations to extend the lease and are thankful for all the  wonderful guests and staff in the Red Bridge area,” reads a statement from KC Hopps. “We also appreciate the professionalism of the landlord and wish them and all the tenants all the best in the future.”

The landlord, Lane4 Property Group, expressed disappointment with the decision but also optimism. “There is a lot of velocity at Red Bridge Shopping Center right now,” said Lane4 Vice President Brandon Buckley. “The restaurant opportunity will be great for another operator who provides good service.”

(Buckley also said he will soon be making an announcement on two new tenants joining the shopping center.)

Tanner’s opened in 2021 after another KC Hopps-owned restaurant, Blue Moose, closed at the location after a two-year run. Tanners took over the 7000 square foot space adding over 50 HD TVs and offering a full service bar, stage and dance area, covered outdoor patio, game and private party room. As restaurants re-opened post-pandemic, the Red Bridge Tanner’s  attracted standing only crowds from the neighborhood. 

Today, on a Tuesday at 2 pm, only about a dozen people populated the oversized establishment. Founded in 1985 in Lenexa, the Tanner’s brand grew to multiple locations throughout the Kansas City area as well as Nebraska, Wisconsin and Kansas. Known for its bar food, pool tables, dart boards and multi-entertainment offerings, the Cheers-like atmosphere was an instant hit. There are now seven Tanners in the metropolitan area. The Red Bridge location was the only Tanners franchise owned by KC Hopps. 

In February, an Overland Park Tanner’s at 119th and 69 Hwy relocated after the owners were unable to renegotiate the lease.  It has been operating at that location for 38 years. 

Tanner’s Red Bridge employees will be offered employment at other businesses in the area owned or operated by KC Hopps, Ltd., according to the announcement.  

Guests of Tanner’s in Red Bridge are encouraged to stop in for one last visit to take advantage  of their specials and promotions through Sunday, June 28th.
