Two victims of separate shootings in the Noble and Gregory Ridge neighborhood died this week, according to Jake Becchina, KCPD Media Unit Commander.
At 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, KCPD officers were dispatched to the 3600 block of East 73rd Street, near Noble Park and Southside Christian Church. Officers found a person rendering aid to a 50-year-old woman inside a car, who was unresponsive after being shot.
Officers rendered additional aid to the victim and called for emergency medical services. EMS took over, and eventually declared the victim dead at the scene, according to Becchina. Additional officers located and detained a subject of interest for further investigation at a nearby location.
Detectives and crime scene investigators have canvassed the scene for witnesses and gathered available evidence, according to KCPD. The early investigation indicates the victim and suspect were in front of the residence when an altercation escalated to gunfire, which struck the victim.
On Thursday morning, the victim was identified as 50-year-old Dionne L. Culp.
If anyone was in the Noble and Gregory Ridge area and heard or saw anything or has any information, and has not yet talked to police, they are asked to contact detectives directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
Later on Thursday, KCPD announced a late death in a separate shooting earlier this year that occurred in the same neighborhood. On July 4, KCPD reported a man was found shot in front of a residence in the 7100 block of Bellafontaine Avenue, just half a mile from the site of Wednesday’s shooting.
On the night of July 4, the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. This week, KCPD detectives learned he died in the hospital as a result of the injuries.
In the announcement, the victim was identified as 37-year-old Ashton Herring-Clemons.
Jackson County Medical examiners conducted their review and investigation in the July 4 shooting and have ruled the death a homicide, according to KCPD. Detectives are working with prosecutors to present them with all new information for their updated consideration.
