On July 12 at 3 pm, a dozen people gathered at Blue Bicycle Fitness (11128 Holmes Road), joining thousands of others remotely around the world in an attempt to set a new World Record for the simultaneous performance of jumping jacks.
The record setting attempt was part of the IDEA World Fitness & Nutrition Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Participants completed, or aimed for, 98 jumping jacks, either traditional, low-impact or sitting, in honor of the 98th birthday of fitness enthusiast Elaine LaLanne.
Elaine, along with her late husband, Jack, longtime host of the Jack LaLanne Show, popularized fitness and health as we now know it in America. Jack, who passed away in 2011, popularized jumping jacks as a form of exercise.
The previous record of simultaneous jumping jacks was 2,250 people. Tallying for the July 12 event is underway, but is thought to be around 7,550 people, breaking the previous record threefold.
