Learn about nature photography, do some yoga by the Blue River, or check out a guided hike with a Blue River Nature Guide this Saturday.
On September 30, the Heartland Conservation Alliance (HCA) will be celebrating Kansas City’s Blue River with river and nature-based activities at Minor Park, Shelter #1, from 10 am to 3 pm. Minor Park is located off Holmes and Red Bridge roads.
The free event includes guided hikes, beginning kayaking, trail bike rides, yoga, bird walks, nature photography, wild edibles and mushroom foray, and nature crafts. Displays, a raffle and a lunchtime Mexican buffet (donations requested) round out the day’s experience.
HCA has been celebrating Blue River Days throughout the month of September with a friendly competitive fundraising campaign. With a goal of raising $25,000 by the end of the month, the organization has raised a little over $5000. Donations can be made at the event or online. Bass Pro shops and Cabela’s are matching funds. Contributions help HCA fund its Blue River Nature Guide programming.
