Man dies after shooting at 94th and Cleveland

Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that killed 23-year-old man after a dispute escalated in the parking lot.

Investigation continues Friday after a shooting at a south Kansas City apartment complex left a 23-year-old man dead on Thursday afternoon, according to KCPD.

On Friday morning,  Cap. Jake Becchina identified the victim as 23-year-old Bryan Peet.

Officers were dispatched to the 9400 block of Cleveland Avenue on a shooting call at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. They found an adult male shooting victim unresponsive in the parking lot and rendered aid until emergency medical services arrived and took over. He was transported to an area hospital where he died of the injuries, KCPD said in a release.

The investigation indicates the victim was shot after an argument escalated. The argument began inside an apartment before moving to the parking lot. Additional parties joined in before it escalated to gunfire, which struck the victim. The suspect then left the scene in an unknown direction, KCPD said.

Homicide Detectives and crime scene investigators have begun a homicide investigation and responded to the scene for evidence. Detectives are canvassing for witnesses and talking to those at the scene when officers first arrived.

If anyone was in this area of the apartment and heard or saw anything or has any information, and has not yet talked to police, they are asked to contact homicide detectives directly at (816) 234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at (816) 474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
