“Wink” play set in KC, coming to Arts Asylum

‘Wink,” a stage show with a lesson in being careful what you wish for, is coming to the Arts Asylum at 824 E Meyer Blvd. in Kansas City. Performances of the show, set in small-town Kansas and in Kansas City, are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10, and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 12. 

“Wink” follows the story of precocious Rip Van Winkle, who learns the hard way to be careful what one wishes for. In the play, 10-year-old Rip wakes up 20 years in the future as a 30-year-old who is not nearly as ready as he believed he was to deal with the challenges of adult life, loss and love. 

Without the benefit of the Van Winkle magic, 10-year-old Grace travels a parallel emotional journey after a family tragedy. When the paths of these two lost souls finally cross, fate steps in where magic leaves off, propelling their whirlwind romance to the unlikeliest of fairy tale endings. 

The cast features Wesley Geil, Lauren Daughterty, Maggie Hutchison , Spencer Thompson, Ryan Tucker, Cara Parisi, Adam Cameron and student actors between 10 and 17 years old from all around the Kansas City area. 

General admission tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children, which includes those younger than 17. Attendees also have the option to include a donation to the Arts Asylum with their purchase. More information can be found at www.theartsaslyum.org.
