On Saturday, November 22, the Leawood Fire Department will host a Holiday Fire Safety Showcase at Leawood City Park.
The free event is suitable for all ages and will demonstrate fire safety practices for the holiday season.
Firefighters will conduct a “burn show” comparing two living rooms caught on fire, with one protected by sprinklers. Other demonstrations include grease fires, innovative smoke alarms and electrical safety when using space heaters.
“This showcase takes safety out of the classroom and puts it right in front of you,” said Fire Marshal Brittany Brown. “Seeing how fast a fire spreads or how sprinklers work is something families never forget—and that knowledge can save lives.”
There will be free hot cocoa for attendees and a chance to tour a fire truck. The City of Leawood will share information about its Christmas tree recycling program.
The event takes place from 2:30 to 4 pm.
