
Opa! Greek Fest Has Arrived
The annual Greek Fest featuring a wide variety of authentic Greek food and pastries at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 12001 Wornall Rd., will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, September 7, noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, September 8, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 9.
The festival also will include entertainment by children, teen and adult Greek folk dance groups and traditional and contemporary Greek music by the Hellenic Five and singer Eugenia Stanev.
There are no entrance fees, only charges for food and beverages, and a portion of the proceeds go to the Annunciation Ladies Philoptochos (Friends of the Poor) Society.
The Hellenic Five has performed throughout the United States, Canada and was invited to perform on a ten day tour of Greece by the late Melina Mercouri, former international actress and Minister of Cultural Affairs in Greece. Other venues of note include The International Festivals of Music in Vancouver, Chicago and Rockford, The Chicago Cultural Center, The Art Institute, The Medinah Temple, several major colleges and universities throughout the United States, the Democratic Convention in Atlanta, fundraising and celebratory events for Greek-American political figures, entertaining fans of the Chicago Bulls at the United Center pre-game ceremonies, live performances on WLUP 98 FM and WNUR 89.3 FM, several Carribean Cruises, The Museum of Natural History, The Hellenic Museum, The Governor’s Mansion in Springfield, Illinois”
