KCPD is investigating a shooting incident at 79th Street and Troost Avenue that left 9 people with non-life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning, according to public information officer Alayna Gonzalez.

Officers were dispatched to the 7900 block of Troost Ave. at about 4 a.m. Saturday after a call about gunfire. They found three adult female shooting victims upon arrival, who were transported to area hospitals.

Calls also came in of various shooting victims who had been transported to area hospitals by private vehicle. There was a total of nine victims, Gonzalez confirmed.

The shooting was more than four miles, or about 10 minutes away, from the England national football team’s training base at Swope Soccer Village in Swope Park.

“This was not near a World Cup venue or base camp,” Gonzalez told the Telegraph in an email Sunday evening. The clarification from KCPD came after headlines in the New York Times, the Independent and the Times of India reported the shooting was near England’s training base.

There are not any suspects in custody at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
