Pinnacle Winds, south Kansas City’s only professional wind band, will be premiering an original symphony at its upcoming concert on Sunday, April 3rd, at 2 pm, at Grandview High School auditorium, 2300 High Grove Dr.
Symphony #2: Song of the Mountains was composed by Tyler Harrison who has a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. The composition was written for a concert band the size of Pinnacle Winds, rather than a different medium such as a large orchestra, according to John Carmichael, conductor and founder of Pinnacle Winds. Harrison is scheduled to be at the concert to hear his symphony make its debut.
The program will also consist of “fine, proven music that many will recognize,” said Carmichael.
Guest conductor Dr. Julian E. White will conduct half of the program while Carmichael conducts the other half. White is director emeritus at the Florida A&M University band program.
